Encouragement is a Powerful Thing

My love language is Words of Encouragement.  Are  you like me? I’ve felt the deep encouragement from receiving a card sent with love, so I use greeting cards as a means of encouraging others. And, I feel it’s important that what my family and others see in our home be encouraging, too.

I heard it suggested once that what a child grew up seeing on the walls of their home would go with them as an adult.  The images and impressions all serve to shape their beliefs.  I decided then to intentionally choose beauty and truth to be on the walls of our home.  Encouragement to love one another, be faithfully living for the Lord, and be believing truth.  Uplifting, encouraging words!

“Encouragement is a Powerful Thing” is the Dayspring (in)spired deals theme in June. Isn’t that perfect? (There will also be a Giveaway coming this week–come back every day and look for it!) That’s practically my theme for this blog.  I don’t think that any woman, mom or Homeschooler would be able to make it to the finish line without encouragement.  I wouldn’t, and I am so grateful for all of your encouragement to me this past week!

I chose to review something for our walls on my first (in)spired deals review: the “Count Your Blessings” photo frame, because “Count Your Blessings” is one of my favorite hymns, and I often sing it when I feel discouraged.  This frame is perfect for displaying a family photo, or one of your children.  I think it would make a great baby gift, though, and would look so cute in a nursery, with its large numbers and its colors, so even though I chose it for myself, I might just give it away.  Because, I like to give great gifts. Do you encourage others through carefully-chosen gifts? That is a wonderful way to be used of God for His glory.

I actually wasn’t even expecting the frame to come yet when it arrived. It was packaged carefully with bubble wrap, in its own box, which makes it nice for gift-giving. Giving unexpected gifts is fun, too, because everyone likes to know that someone was thinking of them for no reason at all.

If you’ve ever been really down, and had a friend encourage you, even in some small way, you know how powerful that can be.  And God is the Author of encouragement, isn’t He. When you feel like quitting, and the Lord encourages you to press on, it’s truly a powerful thing!  I hope that this blog is just that sort of encouragement and I am just that kind of friend to you.

One of my greatest joys is to be able to lift the spirit of someone else on this blog and that’s what this “Mondays Are Great!” meme is all about. You can linkup to Mondays Are Great (Glad Rejoicing Encouraged and Thankful) below!

Is there someone you know who needs encouragement to keep on going? God will frequently bring someone to my mind to send a card to, and so I keep a box of cards on hand and a gift shelf in my bedroom closet stocked up, too, with items I’ve often found on sale, so that I’m ready when the Lord prompts me.

I know that you can encourage me and everyone who visits this blog today by sharing how God encouraged you this week.

I love sharing anything that I think may help you in raising your children for the Lord, or that keeps you growing strong in your spiritual life, or that teaches you how to love your husband more–it makes me feel encouraged, too.  And, what a privilege to partner with God in this important work, through blogging.

A special love for my sisters in the Lord is in my heart, and I am so grateful for all of you.  Your prayers and encouraging words were very precious to me through an emotional and overwhelming week, with my daughter’s accident.

Blogging has surprised and blessed me in a way I never expected by introducing me to new friends who I honestly don’t know what I would do without.  Who knew?  God is so good that way.  He brings surprises and encouragement in ways we could never have imagined.

He uses people, words, even our walls to speak encouragement to us, and helps us to keep on so that we may hear Him say one day, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”  Encouragement is a powerful thing!

  1. Sharon,
Thanks so much for your kindness, friend. I got your email, yes, after getting back into town yesterday. Continue to pray for Kelsey, please.

It is a huge challenge to be in partnership side-by-side with God, without getting ahead of Him, or forgetting to keep my eyes on Him, and not get focused on the work, and make it an idol. So thankful for you all who I consider friends(!) through blogging. What a joy!

Praise God for the victory we have in Jesus,

  2. Wendy – You are one of the best *encouragers* I know! I am always uplifted by your words – so thank you for sharing them. I’m glad to hear that your daughter is doing well (I sent you a quick email – did you get it?) – what a terrible scare for all of you.

I couldn’t agree more with what you said – that it is a privilege to partner with God in this blogging world. I am amazed at what God is doing as we join together as the Body of Christ on the internet. We all need His encouragement – and it is good to speak often of the victory we have in Him. Pass it on!

  3. Hi Wendy – encouragement is a wonderful thing. I missed the post about your daughter and I’m thankful she is okay.

    Have a blessed week.
