Habits are interesting things. At first you really have to think about doing something, and then one day you’re so in the habit that you find you act without thinking. I changed a habit this week. Want to know what it was and how I did it?
Now, would you like to experience those things?
Let me share with you very simply what I did.
“Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you.”
I changed one habit. As a stay-at-home mom, but finished Homeschooling, I have more flexibility in my morning schedule, or so I thought. I had gotten into the habit of checking my email while I ate my breakfast. Funny how one little habit was affecting so many areas! I thought it was good time management, getting two things done at once. But, often I would also return emails, check my blog, respond to comments…and there went a couple of hours! So, this week when I had my coffee and breakfast in hand, I walked past the computer, and headed to the special place where I have my Quiet Time, a comfortable chair in our Family Room.
Second habit, I applied what I read. I love the Lord for His faithfulness to reward even the smallest effort made.
10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
When Satan attacked, God encouraged from His Word to put on the whole armor of God and lift my shield of faith high! In my mind I clothed myself: helmet of salvation–check! Breastplate of righteousness–check! Loins girt about with truth–check. Feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace–check. Taking up the shield of faith–check! Picking up my sword of the Spirit–got it!! Praying without ceasing. Yes, Lord. Ready.
That shield of faith is very important. Do you have a puny shield? Sometimes mine is. It starts out big, but it gets heavy and slips down a bit, leaving me vulnerable. Then I exchange it for that lightweight everyday shield. Not expecting any big attacks today, and that big shield of faith is so heavy. I just need the little one today, right? I begin to get hit by fiery darts from the enemy, and He reminds me that I need a large shield raised high!
“Greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world.” Quoting words from the Bible, my sword, I attack back!
There’s no place for a puny shield in spiritual warfare! If I’m going to build up strong spiritual muscles, I need to lift that heavy equipment high and daily!
“When I am weak, then I am strong, for His strength is made perfect in weakness.”
