When we went to Duluth recently to visit my sister and brother-in-law, Ron tried something new with his Breakfast Bake! And I think it made it even better! It was delicious.  He wanted to try something even easier, (or maybe it was that he didn’t have a pie crust on hand, I forget) but, he used crescent rolls instead!  And, you know he couldn’t miss with that, right?  Isn’t that how great recipes are invented? I need to do that more often:  just experiment.

Ron’s Breakfast Bake 2

Serves: 6

Ingredients:

1 Pillsbury Deep Dish Pie Crust

  • 1 Tube Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
  • 1 pound Jimmy Dean regular sausage, cooked and grease drained off (you can make this up ahead, and wipe off more grease)
  • 7 eggs
  • 2 cups of cheese, shredded (they used Cheddar Jack)
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 medium onion, cut up

Directions:

Mix all together, open and lay flat the crescent rolls on the bottom of a greased 9×13 pan, pour the egg mixture over the crescent rolls and bake at 350 degrees for one hour.  Check after an hour, by putting a knife into the center, to see if it’s done, (the knife will come out clean); bake longer, if necessary.

*This recipe freezes well, so you can make two, and freeze one for later pretty easily. You can also cut the recipe in half (your choice on whether you use 3 or 4 eggs:)  Serve it with smoothies and muffins or fruit.  Like a B & B breakfast, but super easy. My kind of recipe.

    I love experimenting in the kitchen, too. Experiments in cooking, that it. I’m not so successful with experimenting on baking because I’m not knowledgeable (yet) with it. Thanks for sharing this recipe! Will try it soon.
