Christmas Gift Idea and Giveaway!

We always gave our children Christmas gifts that were useful, not frivolous, or we tried to, but also ones they would love! We thought this helped to stave off greed and cultivated gratefulness along with a proper perspective on Christmas gifts. I think these mittens would make a great Christmas gift for anyone.

I am so happy to introduce you to my friend, Lisa, one of the most creative and lovely persons I have ever known. She has graciously donated one pair of her handmade adorable mittens, either adult or child, from her Etsy shop merchantships! (See entry rules below!) Now, I will let Lisa speak for herself:) I know you’re going to love her–and her mittens!

…a little bit about me…

I’m a mother of many sweet little ones…we have 26 hands in our house, most of which needed nice warm mittens for winter. The mittens I found at the store didn’t seem very sturdy or warm, Besides this, they were continually getting lost. (Someday, when all of my children are grown, I’m sure I will find all of the lost mittens and socks…)

I found a book that inspired me to make mittens out of old wool sweaters, so I tried it. I have always enjoyed the thrifty, creative feeling of making something pretty and practical out of something old or discarded! I love to create because I am made in the image of my loving Creator! And, I must confess, I have to continually bring the urge to create into balance with the other needful tasks of life. (The most important being to love my husband and to train the owners of those little hands!)

…a little bit about the mittens…

My mittens are made from recycled, repurposed wool and cashmere sweaters. The sweaters are washed in hot water until they shrink and become dense and warm. Then, the shrunken wool is dried in a hot dryer. (This is the felting process!)

I have created my own mitten patterns, based on a favorite pair of mittens that I have had for several years. I line my mittens with a soft, recycled fleece, or a buttery soft cashmere. This way, you don’t have to feel any raw seam edges, resulting in the most comfortable mittens you may ever own. I also tack up the cuffs, so they won’t *roll down*. My family and I wear my handmade mittens….we know they feel good and will keep you warm!

If you’re looking for a special gift for your children or grandchildren, Lisa’s mittens are the perfect fit!! You’ll also find her adult-sized mittens warmly received by friends and family. Try on these samples of her work and then visit her Etsy shop and put your hands together for the most darling warm mittens you’ll ever own!
